How to Tell Your Face Shape
Look in the mirror and trace the outline of your face, or take a front-facing photo with your hair pulled back. Pay attention to your jawline, cheekbones, and forehead width relative to each other. Most faces fall roughly into one of five shapes: round, oval, square, heart, or oblong.
Round Faces
Soft curves, full cheeks, and a rounded jawline with similar width and length. Look for: angular or rectangular frames that add definition and make the face appear longer. Avoid: round or oversized round frames, which emphasize roundness rather than balancing it.
Oval Faces
Balanced proportions with a slightly narrower jaw than forehead — generally considered the most versatile face shape. Look for: almost anything works, but geometric and wayfarer-style frames are especially flattering. Avoid: oversized frames that overwhelm smaller, balanced features.
Square Faces

- Your frame's width should roughly match your face's widest point — not wider, not narrower.
- Eyebrows should sit just above or along the top of the frame, not hidden behind it.
- If you're unsure, warm frame tones (tortoiseshell, brown, gold) suit warmer skin tones, while cool tones (black, silver, grey) suit cooler skin tones.
